This year, World Diabetes Day focuses on “Diabetes and Well-being” with a special spotlight on life at work. The goal is to build workplaces that care for both physical and mental health, helping people with diabetes feel supported and understood.

The Everyday Challenge

For many employees living with diabetes, work can bring hidden struggles. Managing deadlines while keeping blood sugar levels in check is not easy.

Sometimes, there’s stress, stigma, or lack of flexibility, making it harder to take care of one’s health during work hours. The constant pressure can also lead to fatigue or burnout, especially when support from colleagues or the organization is missing.

Why It Matters

Around 412 million people living with diabetes are of working age that’s 7 in 10 adults, globally. For them, managing diabetes isn’t just a personal task; it’s part of their daily work life too.

Yet, many still hesitate to talk about their condition at work. Fear of judgment or bias makes them stay silent, which can affect both their confidence and mental health.

This year, the International Diabetes Federation is calling for more inclusive, understanding, and supportive workplaces where people with diabetes can manage their health without fear or stigma.

How Workplaces Can Help

Building a healthy workplace doesn’t need big changes, just thoughtful actions like:

  • Creating awareness so everyone understands what diabetes really is and how to support colleagues who have it.
  • Allowing flexible breaks for meals, glucose checks, or medication when needed.
  • Encouraging regular check-ups with annual health screenings and wellness sessions.
  • Providing ways to relax, like indoor games or recreational zones, to help reduce stress and promote balance.

Our Approach at Concept Medical

At Concept Medical, we believe that a healthy team is a strong team. We’ve built an environment that supports our employees’ health and happiness every day.

Here’s how we do it:

  • Annual health check-ups to help employees stay on top of their well-being.
  • Flexible working hours so everyone can balance work and personal health needs.
  • Regular monitoring with in-office blood pressure and blood sugar testing equipment, ensuring easy access to basic health checks.
  • Readily available medicines for immediate care and safety.
  • Nutritious and balanced meals provided on-site to encourage healthy eating habits.
  • Indoor game zones and recreational spaces help reduce stress and promote work-life balance.

These initiatives reflect our belief that well-being at work should never be an afterthought, it should be part of everyday culture.

The Goal

To create a workplace where employees with diabetes feel understood, supported, and empowered to thrive not just professionally, but personally.

At Concept Medical, health and innovation go hand in hand. Because when our people feel their best, they do their best.
