Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV).

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is a new strain that was discovered in 2019 and has not been previously identified in humans.

Symptoms

Common signs of infection include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. In more severe cases, the infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure, and even death.

Basic Preventive Measures to fight against Coronavirus:

Wash your hands

Wash your hands frequently with an alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.

Practice respiratory hygiene

When coughing and sneezing, cover mouth and nose with flexed elbow or tissue – discard tissue immediately into a closed bin and clean your hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.

Maintain social distancing

Maintain at least 1 meter (3 feet) distance between yourself and other people, particularly those who are coughing, sneezing and have a fever.

Practice Food Safety

Avoid the consumption of raw or undercooked animal products. Handle raw meat, milk or animal organs with care, to avoid cross-contamination with uncooked foods, as per good food safety practices.

Travel Safe and healthy

Avoid travel if you have a fever and cough. If you have any symptoms of CoV seek medical care and share previous travel history with your health care provider.

Educate yourself & others

Get the facts, gather the information that will help you accurately determine the risks that you can take reasonable precautions. Educate yourself and others in your community.

Maintain a healthy lifestyle

Maintain a healthy lifestyle including proper diet, sleep, and exercise and social contact with loved ones. Consume vitamin C & D rich diet, immunity-boosting foods, and probiotics. Get plenty of suns and drink enough water.

Manage your emotions

It is normal to feel sad, stressed, confused, scared or angry during a crisis. A conversation with friends and family can help. Children may respond to stress in different ways, respond to your child’s reactions in a supportive way, listen to their concerns and give them extra love

Be mindful of others.

It is advised to stock up on basic necessities to avoid public gatherings and prepare for a crisis. Though be mindful of others and less privileged, stock up only as much as you need, do not hoard. Help neighbors and others in your community.
